Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should I bring on a one day tour?

Relative to the weather on the day - we recommend you wear comfortable clothing - camera, bottle of drinking water, and suitable footwear -bring a hat and sunscreen during the hotter weather. Morning tea and lunch are provided on our one day tours.All the tour vehicles also carry extra water to top up drinking containers with during the tour.

Q. What type of meals are provided on fully catered multi day tours?

Breakfast is usually continental - cereal, toast, yoghurt, fruit, tea or coffee. Cooked breakfast, such as bacon & eggs is sometimes available. Morning tea is cake and tea or coffee. Lunch will normally be in a cafe or roadhouse - or if on the road cold meat and salad in wraps. Evening meals will vary depending on where we are. Either in a hotel or restaurant - usually 2 or 3 courses, but we are always complimented by the variety, quality and amount served. We can also cater for vegetarians or people with other special dietary needs. Please notify us of any dietary requirements when booking the tour

Q: What type of accommodation can I expect on multi day tours?

Accommodation varies - but all of our tours are fully accommodated. Many of the places we travel to have very limited accommodation available. We try to provide a variety of accommodation styles including outback pubs, motel units, cabins, underground rooms or shearers quarters. We often pick accommodation that is unique and adds to the tour experience.

Q: What is the average size group?

We operate mostly for small exclusive groups, and some of our tours operate with a minimum of two or three passengers. We can also cater for larger groups if required. Generally there is a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 per vehicle. If you book a tour as a couple we will make the other 2 seats available for an additional 1 or 2 passengers, should anyone wish to join - if not we will run the tour for just 2 passengers.

Q: I am travelling alone, can I still book a tour?

Passengers travelling alone are welcome, we can match you up to an existing tour so you will have travelling companions. Many of our passengers are travelling alone, and many go home with new found friends. There is an additional single supplement payable on overnight tours if you require a single room.

Q: Are there many toilets along the way?

As we travel in remote areas, toilets are sometimes few and far between. But we can usually find enough toilet facilities and offer a stop at every opportunity if required.

Q: What am I likely to see on a tour?

You can expect to see fantastic scenery, magnificent views as well as wildlife, birds and wildflowers along the way. Our guides are experts on spotting things. We regularly see kangaroos, emus, wedge-tail eagles, lizards, lots of birds, and much more.

Q: What happens if it rains?

Many roads in the outback are unsealed, and rain can sometimes cause road closures. In the unlikely event that this happens we make every effort possible to re-route the tour, but this is not always possible. On very rare occasions we may need to extend our stay in a remote town due to closed roads. We recommend travel insurance to cover any extra costs incurred by you because of this. There may also be occasions where it is necessary for our guide to make a decision to depart early or change a destination to avoid road closures due to impending rain.

Q: What sort of vehicles do you use?

We operate South Australian Passenger Transport Accredited vehicles. We currently have a 200 series Toyota Landcruiser and a 300 series Landcruiser 4WD vehicle, which are licensed for 7 and 6 passengers - but we prefer to operate with a maximum of 4 passengers per vehicle unless a family group requests otherwise. Our vehicles are air-conditioned and fully equipped for travel in remote areas.

Q: Are the tours suitable for older people?

The majority of our clients are between 50 - 75 years of age. You don't need to be overly fit, but you do need to be in good health for our extended tours.

Q: Can I organise a custom made tour?

We are happy to organise a custom made tour for couples or groups, especially those with special interests such as bird-watching, photography, 4wding or bush-walking. Contact us for ideas or a quote.

Q: Do I need travel insurance?

We highly recommend that you arrange full travel insurance to cover any loss or damage to property, cancellation of tour due to unforeseen circumstances or illness or any other eventuality that may result in expenses or loss of income. If it is necessary for us to cancel the tour after its commencement because of conditions outside of our control, no refund will be provided to its participants. Any expenses incurred because of a delay beyond our control shall not be our responsibility.

Q: Will I have mobile phone reception while on my tour?

Coverage is limited, and at times unreliable. Telstra has the best regional coverage of all the carriers - but some locations only have Optus coverage. The tour guide will carry a satelite telephone when on remote tours.
